“The first wealth is Health” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
There is growing evidence that increased activity improves health and general wellbeing. For more information please visit www.cdc.gov –the importance of physical activity
The range of benefits are varied and include:-
- Reduction in overall cancer
- Protection against type 2 diabetes
- Lowering of Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure of between 6-10 mmHg with
regular aerobic exercise (Mcardle et al 1996)
- Aid Sleep Patterns – long term sleep deprivation has been associated with a
plethora of chronic conditions from premature ageing to lowered immunity
The Office of National Statistics suggest that 9.2% of the population will suffer from Mixed Anxiety and Depression. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence advises patients of all ages with mild depression of the benefit of following a structured and supervised exercise programme. They suggest up to 3 sessions per week of moderate duration (45 to 60 minutes).
